ALECTIA Advises Unicer on Important Expansion Project

Published 09 October 2012 | By Alectia

ALECTIA is working on a project with the Unicer Bebidas Group which owns two breweries in Northern and Southern Portugal. The project involves the expansion and reconstruction of the brewery in the North, where the main production will be consolidated.

UnicerUnicer has decided to gather most of its activities at one brewery. This entails a reconstruction of the brewery in the North to prepare it for a larger production, while the southern activities are scaled back. Unicer is an example of a general trend of having fewer but larger production plants, which is also seen in the rest of the EU.

Recommended by Carlsberg

The facilities will be reconstructed while the production keeps running, and ALECTIA steps in to assist in managing the task. While complicated the challenge is not new to ALECTIA, who has been a leading consultant to the brewing industry for 40 years. Account Director Christian Luxhøj explains:

"In 2006 ALECTIA assisted the Carlsberg Group in the expansion of the Carlsberg brewery in Northampton. The project was a great success, and Carlsberg, a part owner of Unicer, kindly introduced ALECTIA to the Unicer project in order to assist with the design, tendering and managing of the project. We have gladly participated, having previously worked with Unicer."

2.000 brewery projects

Through the years ALECTIA has worked on approx 2.000 brewery projects across the world. Among other things we have previously helped Unicer develop conceptual design and master plans. ALECTIA is widely recognised as one of the world's leading advisers to the global brewing industry. Our references include international groups such as Carlsberg, Heineken, Grolsch, and SAB Miller.
