Benchmark brewery near Port Elizabeth for SAB

ALECTIA has assisted South African Breweries (SAB) with the planning and design of one of the company’s best and most impressive breweries in the world: Ibhayi Brewery near Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

SAB's intent with the Ibhayi Brewery was to build the world's benchmark brewery in terms of manufacturing systems, organizational design and asset care.

The project went from a greenfield site to a new 50,000 hl/week brewery in a record time of just 18 months. The plant comprises the most modern proven technology arranged in functional buildings positioned in close contact with each other, and the project execution was based on ALECTIA's phase model.

The state of the art brewery has one of the largest packaging lines in the world and has received achievements on its excellence in brewing and packaging quality.

ALECTIA's responsibilities on the project included:

  • Final systems design for Brewing, Packaging and Utilities
  • Development of Final Proposal for a complete brewery
  • Basic Engineering for Brewing, Packaging and Utilities
  • Tender dossiers, contract negotiations and contract documents
  • Design coordination during construction
  • Testing & Commissioning
