New Belgium Brewing selects Perkins+Will for sustainable brewery design

DBR Staff Writer Published 20 June 2012

New Belgium Brewing has selected Perkins+Will, a Chicago-based architectural firm, to design its upcoming brewery at a 17.5 acre brownfield site in North Carolina.

Perkins will use its sustainable practices and eco-friendly elements to design the brewery's new packaging, office, tasting and meeting rooms.

Scheduled to start the ground work in 2013, New Belgium plans to roll out its first beer at the facility by 2015.

Colorado-based New Belgium Brewing CEO Kim Jordan said by teaming with Perkins+Will, they look forward to creating a second brewery that truly reflects who they are as a company and their ideals regarding environmental stewardship.

"Like New Belgium, Perkins+Will also believes in sustainability and the importance of being a good corporate citizen by serving both our co-workers and the communities in which we work," Jordan added.

Perkins+Will Charlotte principal and managing director David Geiser said they are taking on a challenging brownfield site and are motivated in their pursuit of sustainable operations as New Belgium.
