Ma’Velous offers coffees with six different brewing options
Ma’Velous, a coffee and wine bar in San Francisco, has launched new artisan brews, said to be handcrafted by professional baristas using the guest’s choice of six different brewing methods.
The new equipment at the wine bar includes custom-built espresso machine, a Hario V60 coffee drip, a Chemex coffee maker, a French press, a Siphon coffee brewing machine, and a Kyoto cold slow drip coffee maker.
Ma'Velous said its baristas have at their fingertips pre-infusion, pressure and temperature profiling that allows them to brew at different settings. The company commissioned Espressoparts to build a custom La Marzocco machine with an exposed engine behind decorative glass panels.
Ma'Velous founder Phillip Ma said the new options allow coffee aficionados to taste the full complexity of each coffee without cream or sugar.
"There is no bitterness here. Ma'Velous believes that the quality of the coffee is the only thing that gives the coffee its excellent taste," Ma said.
The select seasonal menu of the coffee and wine bar is said to concentrate on celebrating the small sustainable farms, roasteries and wineries.
Ma'Velous claims it is the only West Coast cafe that offers this selection of international roasteries including the Chicago coffee company Intelligentsia; San Francisco's own Ecco Caffe, known for its artisan world coffee; and, sometimes, the Norwegian micro-roastery Tim Wendelboe.
