Loveland to optimize beverage distribution with Paragon software

DBR Staff Writer Published 01 September 2010

Loveland Distributing Company will deploy advanced distribution planning software from Paragon Software Systems in order to optimize its beverage distribution.

The company will use the software to streamline delivery routing of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks such as Red Bull, Sweet Leaf Tea and Nesquik to 3000 licensed retailers including Wal-Mart, Food Lion, Kroger, and 7-Eleven.

Loveland will use the software to automate the planning of 20 optimized routes across Virginia, which service around 500 customers a day, encompassing counties of Henrico, Hanover, Chesterfield, Goochland, King William, King & Queen, Powhatan and Caroline, and the city of Richmond.

Loveland MIS Director and project leader Paul Collier said that Paragon’s team was able to demonstrate the product using the company's data, which clearly explained the value of the product to the project team.

“By using Paragon software, we will reduce daily routes and mileage with consequent operational savings. We will use the software to recalculate our current routes into a more efficient pattern, and then use it to re-route every two months to meet varying seasonal demands,” Collier said.

The beverage distributor, as it has varied fleet of vehicles used across the routes, expects that the Paragon software will enhance efficiencies.

The fleet includes bulk tractor-trailers, draft trucks, 18-bay delivery tractor trailers, 16-bay trucks, heavy-duty vans, and support vehicles.
