Heineken US Chooses Coyote Logistics To Handle Freight Forwarding Operations

DBR Staff Writer Published 02 February 2010

Heineken US, a beer importer and a subsidiary of brewer Heineken International, has selected Coyote Logistics (Coyote) as its national freight forwarder. According to this new agreement, Coyote will manage the outbound transportation of the company's Dutch brand portfolio from Heineken US' six Demand Point centers.

The company said that the selection was based on a strategic review of the company's supply chain activities to help deliver against corporate growth goals and that this partnership applies only to freight forwarding activities for its Dutch brand portfolio.

Heineken US will continue to work with Satellite Logistics, ASA Apple and Maersk to coordinate the portfolio's drayage and warehousing operations at its Demand Point locations.

Dan Sullivan, chief financial and operating officer, Heineken US, said: Our supply chain has been a competitive advantage for us. We believe this decision further demonstrates our commitment to continued improvement. By leveraging our scale and consolidating efforts, we will gain efficiencies while maintaining our superior service levels for our distributor partners.

Jeff Silver, chief executive officer of Coyote Logistics, said: We are thrilled to have been awarded this opportunity and to work with an iconic portfolio of brands. The cooperation and creativity of the Heineken US team has inspired us to advance a solution that will help us to maintain and potentially increase service levels while driving efficiencies throughout their supply chain.

Heineken US said that, while importing product from breweries 3,000 miles away, it has decreased order lead time from brewery to store shelf from 10 weeks in 1996 to seven days presently.
