Diageo To Restructure Its Operations In Scotland

Published:01-July-2009

To cut 900 jobs, by closing a plant in Scotland

London-based Diageo, a producer of Johnnie Walker and J&B scotch whiskies, planned to close a distillery and packaging facility as a part of restructuring its operations in Scotland. As the result of this plant closure the company would cut 900 jobs, where the group’s Scottish workforce will be reduced by a net 500 to 4,000.

The company said that the restructuring would reduce its costs by around $66m in 2012.

The company said that the job cuts over the next two years would be offset by creating 400 new jobs by expanding its bottling and packaging plant at Leven, Fife, in eastern Scotland and a new cooperage.

The production process would be shifted to Diageo's other grain distillery at Cameronbridge in Fife. It also informed that it would also cut another 30 related jobs.

The company’s Port Dundas grain distillery and adjacent cooperage in Glasgow would also be shut, by reducing 140 jobs.
