Coca-Cola likely to eliminate IT jobs

DBR Staff Writer Published 03 October 2008

As part of its efforts to become more efficient, Coca-Cola has said that it is looking at downsizing its IT department by the end of 2008.

Currently, the IT department has 1,100 employees. Details regarding the number of job cuts have not been revealed. However, the company has said that it will reveal the details of the employees' job status by mid-November, and by the end of the year the job cuts will take place. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has quoted Dana Bolden, a Coca-Cola spokesperson, as saying: This (layoffs) is a natural and on-going discipline for high-performing companies as part of their long-term planning. As this process moves forward, we expect that IT work will be reassigned within the company, resulting in a minimal reduction in staff over several years. In the beginning of the year, Muhtar Kent, Coca-Cola's president and CEO, said that by 2011, the company wants to see $400 million to $500 million in annual productivity savings.
