Carlsberg makes Rheinfelden brewery as production base for Swiss beer market

DBR Staff Writer Published 30 August 2010

Carlsberg Group, a Danish brewing company with international presence, will shut down its Fribourg brewing unit in Switzerland by June 2011, and will make its Rheinfelden brewery as its base for beer production in the country.

The brewing company said that this step has been taken in pursuit of the ongoing streamlining process of the production network in the group.

The volume is being moved to the brewery in Obernai in France from Switzerland as Feldschlosschen, Carlsberg's Swiss subsidiary, has been producing below its capacity.

Carlsberg said that all the employees in Fribourg will either be provided an alternative employment within Feldschlosschen or will be retired.

Feldschlosschen will now start negotiations with the City of Fribourg about the future use of the brewery site in central Fribourg.
