Alcoholic beverage retailer in US enhances customer service with five new technologies

Beverages & More (BevMo!), a specialty retailer of alcoholic beverages and related products in the US, has chosen technology systems from various companies, including, NCR Corporation, Retail Anywhere, Trevarian, Verifone and Anametrix.

The retailer's new technology initiative called 'ITsMo!' is based around NRF/ARTS (Association for Retail Technology Standards) standards coupled with cloud computing and high-performance technology and service providers.

BevMo! noted that the ITsMo! plan allows for rapid design, adoption and deployment of new technologies.

It is implementing these initiatives in order to improve the customer experience while providing management a 360 degree view of operations anywhere, anytime.

BevMo! will use a combination of hardware, software and services from NCR Corporation including the NCR Advanced Checkout Solution software, the NCR RealPOS 80 XRT POS controllers and workstations, NCR's 2ST, and consulting, integration and maintenance services to enhance point-of-sale (POS) operations.

NCR's Advanced Checkout POS platform is currently installed in 3 BevMo! stores as a pilot program in the San Francisco bay area with an additional 17 stores coming on-line shortly.

The company's new POS platform (publishing transactional data via NRF/ARTS POSlog / XML-standards) plus the current legacy POS system are delivering transactional data in near real time to an ARTS-compliant Enterprise Data Warehouse provided by Retail Anywhere.

The Retail Anywhere EDW provides near real-time store and enterprise level data via a cloud computing environment utilizing Amazon's EC2 Cloud Services.

BevMo! team members have access to actionable data anywhere, anytime via various computing platforms including desktop workstations, mobile workstations, iPhone 4's as well as iPads.

BevMo! has deployed TransAccess, an ARTS-compliant digital receipt/portal application. Consuming real-time data via the Retail Anywhere data warehouse, TransAccess generates XML digital alerts and digital receipts accessible today by BevMo! associates and in the future by ClubBev! customers as well as BevMo! vendor partners.

The retailer said that linking the ClubBev! sales detail with various CRM platforms and vendor partners will maximize consumer satisfaction and improve in-stock positions.

Continually processing real-time data via the Retail Anywhere data warehouse, Anametrix provides analytic dashboards via the cloud-based Anametrix InstaVista platform. This platform will enable BevMo! to use data to drive timely and quality decision-making.

InstaVista is an ARTS-compliant solution that can correlate vast amounts of online and offline data, including point of sale (POS), web analytics, social media, search engine marketing (SEM), video & audio, e-mail campaigns, market research surveys, and customer relationship management (CRM).

The NCR Advanced Marketing Solution, operating within Rackspace's managed and public cloud computing environments, supports customer/client look-up and offer delivery for BevMo!'s ClubBev! CRM program.

In order to protect customers' payment card data and reduce the company's PCI compliance costs, BevMo! has implemented the VeriShield Protect system from VeriFone Systems, which also supplies the MX 860 card acceptance devices currently in use at all BevMo! Locations.

BevMo! vice president/ information technology CIO Bob Graham said by taking the ARTS approach the company has significantly reduced the complexity of delivering solutions to its user community.
